Hello ladies! So, the funny thing is that everyone always sort of assumes, being an interior designer and all, that my house must have the most fabulous and funky interior, ever. Well, to tell you the truth...I am on my way, but not quite there yet. At all! As with every project, there are always (and in this case, serious) budget and time restrictions and as a result, one of the projects that has been on my "to-do" list for a long time, is our patio. And really, here in Guatemala, if there is one place you want to have in order, it is your patio.
As I told you yesterday, my husband and I were cordially invited to spend last weekend at Hotel Casa Palopó, in the village of Santa Catarina Palopó, by Lake Atitlan. Although we had been to the hotel's restaurant a number of times for lunch and dinner on our prior visits to the lake, we had never stayed there as guests. After hearing great comments from my in-laws, whom have stayed there various times in the past, my husband and I were anxious to see if all our expectations would be met.
If you follow me on Instagram (The_HW_Wannabe) and/or in Facebook, you may have heard that my husband and I escaped the city-life this weekend to enjoy the tranquility of Lake Atitlan. After what was an emotionally-exhaustive week, we couldn't wait to pack our bags and head out for a romantic, quiet, and relaxing weekend. I've always been incredibly intrigued by Atitlan, the energy of that place is like no-other. It had been far too long since our last visit, and now I cannot wait to go back!
Where has 2012 gone?! I still feel we're in February, for crying out loud! Just today, when I was driving through El Obelisco, I saw that they were already building the Christmas tree, stores already have their Christmas displays and products ready, and malls have festive decorations…time really does fly by.
While in Mexico City, my husband and I took a highly recommended morning trip to the Soumaya Museum, owned by the Carlos Slim Foundation (Carlos Slim is Mexico's wealthiest business magnate and ranked as the world's richest man in 2012). Needless to say, the museum was absolutely incredible. The architecture of the building itself (designed by Slim's son-in-law) is enough to take your breath away.
Hello ladies! When I was a little girl, we all used to have a "friends album" in which each of our friends would answer a list of questions, add a photo, write a little something about themselves and add little poem for the others to read. We would answer questions like "What would you like to be when you grow up?" (back then, I wanted to be an Air Force pilot!) or "What is your favorite animal?" (mine was horses, and they still are my favorite ones!).
I have just made the most exciting discovery!
Gosh, I can't even begin to tell you how much I LOVED Mexico City! Honestly, it fascinated me. It had an European/American feel to it that is hard to explain. It surpassed all my expectations. I cannot wait to go back! The nightlife was impressive, the restaurants were amazing, the people SUPER friendly, and the shopping...fantastic! You can find everything you need and all the stores and designers you love! Who needs Miami anymore? Mexico City is closer and a lot more interesting!
As you read this, I am either out and about enjoying all the wonderful things Mexico City has to offer, sleeping in ordering room service, or getting all glammed-up for tonight's big wedding. I was really looking forward to this trip, I've never been to Mexico City before (Monterrey, Cancun & Playa del Carmen, yes) and I've heard such amazing things about it that I couldn't help but feel a little curious and anxious to see it for myself.
You know that feeling you get when you listen to a song that reminds you of a particular event in your life? Well, certain quotes have the same effect on me. They touch me in a way that not only makes me think deeper about life in general, but also inspire and motivate me to be a better person - daily. The memories a song possesses may be a very personal thing, a quote however, is something I feel you can share with the world.
