Today's recipe is a very interesting one. It's one that uses a local, seasonal flower most Guatemalans love to eat this time of year: Loroco. Lasagna often seems like an intimidating meal, one that takes hours to prepare and that changes accordingly to whomever is preparing it. This one however, is actually quite a simple one to make.
Today I'm really psyched because we are heading out to spend the day (and night) in Antigua - one of my favorite places in the world. A friend of mine (whom I haven't seen in many, many years) arrived yesterday with her husband and we are super excited to take them around and give them a small taste of Guatemala. Hopefully, they'll leave us wanting to come back and see even more!
Last week, while doing a major internet search for inspirations, I came across some pictures of Gwyneth Paltrow's penthouse in the Tribeca neighborhood in New York. Her loft apartment was completely remodeled by Roman and Williams, and was apparently revealed in the August 2010 edition of Vogue Magazine, which somehow I missed.
Today, I want to start by thanking each and every single one of you who took some time to wish me a Happy Birthday yesterday. I truly, deeply, appreciate it! I felt very loved and admittedly had one of my best birthdays yet; my husband spoiled me with love, attention, flowers and gifts and I had a lovely time with my in-laws, who always make me feel very special!
So, thank you!
I was never one to make a big deal out of my birthday. I was never huge on parties or celebrations. Instead, I've always preferred to celebrate my birthday in a more relaxed way in the company of those I love most. A dinner, a small & intimate get-together, a day at the SPA, a small getaway...those are my favorite ways to honor the day I was brought into this world.
Here we are, at the end of one heck of a crazy week and the beginning what will be a pretty hectic weekend too. We have so much to do, I don't even know where to start. And I'm so excited, because the reason we're so busy is a pretty good one. We have friends coming to visit next week and I want to make sure everything is perfectly set-up for their arrival. I know...I'm a total control freak.
Actually, now that I think about it, I really can't wait for this weekend to be over and for the next week to begin...
This lovely rainy season means it's time for some of my favorite ingredients, which I will be writing about the weeks to come. This week, it's the Dragon Fruit’s turn!
I can't even begin to tell you how fast this week has gone by for me. I cannot believe tomorrow is already Friday! Where did the days go? Not that I'm complaining, the weekend (and my birthday) is literally right around the corner!
In my opinion, one of the hardest rooms to decorate in the house (besides the master bedroom) is the dining room. I want it to look chic, stylish, cool and hip, but at the same time feel warm, inviting, elegant, and timeless. It's a tricky thing, specially when you are a young couple who wants the house to reflect exactly who you are; young, contemporary, modern, vibrant but yet somewhat traditional.
Hello everyone, sorry for disappearing there for a while, there's just been so much going on! We’ll be moving homes soon so the whole house is a mess, and we're running around like chickens with our heads cut off to get it all done. Fortunately, we were able to take a little time off on Saturday to go out with friends. I've had my eyes on Carmen Gastrobar for a while now and we finally got a chance to go. We decided to get a bunch of starters so we could try a little bit of everything, and boy am I glad we did!
